Really gives an interesting and different perspective on what it means to live in a city and challenges ideas of "forever growth". There's a lot to say but Chuck Marohn definitely is a degrowther -- advocating for less infrastructure and balancing budgets as opposed to using debt to create prosperity. On one hand he definitely is correct that aggressive expansion is fiscally unsustainable without high levels of growth. We can see this in cities like Detroit, Gary Indiana, and first generation suburbs that have been designed in a way that has made them sprawling and very economically inefficient. Ultimately we will have to redensify these places and rectify the mistakes of the past.

Pretty good! I love the carny aesthetic and the summer job vibes fit really well with what I'm doing now actually. My only complaint is that King really likes to take his time with world building and exposition so the mystery hasn't even started and I'm almost 120 pages in.

Very enjoyable! I really like nonfiction that is approachable and designed for people to take away the most important points. I'm not an expert on nutrition by any means, but sticking to a meal plan is a lot more enjoyable when you understand the science behind why some foods are being added or replaced. Fast carbs, for example, are ultra-processed, do not give meaningful nutrition in the form of fiber and other nutrients, and spike insulin levels because they are so easily digested. The author claims that modern day carbs and breads are nothing more than "glucose delivery mechanisms". Another thing that I learn from Kessler's book is that nutritionally there is no difference between white and wheat breads. Because of the modern method of making bread they both are so processed that your body can't tell the differece once it is digested by the stomach. This book is part of the reason that I eat overnight oats every morning and feel more full than I would with a normal American breakfast of cereal, bread, etc. Great read! I highly recommend those that want to eat healthier.
